History and development

The University of Da Nang – Campus in Kon Tum (UD-CK) was officially established on February 14th, 2007 as the 7th member of The University of Da Nang (UD). In the early days, UD-CK encountered lots of difficulties and challenges. The facilities were mostly old and seriously downgraded; therefore they needed to be repaired, renovated and upgraded immediately in order to meet the needs of teaching and learning. Especially, UD-CK’s initial human resources were extremely limited, with only 03 lecturers and 03 officers and 300 regular students for its first admission.

Up to present, UD-CK has become a unique and important university which is regarded as “a satellite” of UD in the Central Highlands with its mission of training high-qualified human resources contributing to the development of the Central Highlands, Southern Laos and Northeastern Cambodia. Currently, it has approximately 2,200 students, 103 lecturers and officers and offers 05 postgraduate and 17 bachelor training programs.

 
In terms of research, UD-CK wishes to become one of the leading applied research and technology transferring institution in Kon Tum province particularly and in the Central Highlands generally. It has attempted to transfer research results and technologies into practice, which contributes to the socio-economic development of the region. 


Regarding international cooperation, UD-CK promotes collaboration with various international universities, institutions and organizations in training and conducting research. They include Minghsin University of Science and Technology, Ming Chuan University and National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (Taiwan); Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University and Ubon Ratchathani University (Thailand); Université de Nice - Sophia Antipolis, Université de Paris 8, Université de Valenciennes et du Hainaut-Cambrésis, Université Bordeaux and Université Catholique de Lille (France).


With diversified training programs, highly-qualified, dynamic and creative teaching staff, and prestigious international cooperation programs, applied scientific research and modern facilities, UD-CK has attempted to become a major center of training, research, consultancy and technology transfer with the high quality in the Central Highlands and in Vietnam. UD-CK is the incubator training talented and intelligent people who are dedicated to the development of the Central Highlands, Southern Laos and Northeastern Cambodia.
